In Memory Core Dump

Core dump systems allow for the state of a machine to be saved at crash time for later analysis. Often, a core dump system will write relevant data to a swap partition at crash time. Mission Critical Linux's system ("mcore") however does not rely on the disk subsystem being intact and instead uses system memory to save the crash information. On a subsequent reboot of the system, the crash information can be recovered.

Using crash dumps as a debugging facility greatly reduces the time for developers and users to determine the cause of a kernel fault.

The resulting crash dump file can be analyzed with Mission Critical Linux's stand-alone crash analysis utility.

If you're currently using Mission Critical Linux's In-memory core dump system, make sure you read the INSTALL file before upgrading, as it contains important information regarding backwards compatibility issues. For more information please take a look at the README.
